Dalton State’s Department of Communication and Theatre will soon have the whole campus yelling “FEED ME” with a tantalizing performance of “Little Shop of Horrors” next month. The horror comedy rock musical follows the story of a florist and his flesh-eating plant, Audrey II.
This production is going to be as out of this world as Audrey II. While preparing for the performance, four stars of the show shared what they love about theatre at Dalton State, why they became involved and the importance of theatre.
“I’m so enthusiastic about ‘Little Shop.’ Performing in this musical one of the reasons I wanted to become involved with the theatre program at Dalton State. I’ve been acting for a while and theatre is my favorite medium. It’s the collaboration and the teamwork that comes from forming an ensemble of actors and creating something everyone is proud of. We’re also super blessed to have Dr. Kim Correll and Chad Daniel heading the program, teaching us about the craft and giving us opportunities to risk and stretch our abilities as actors. Laurie Raper, a library assistant at the college, is our costume designer/superhero/wardrobe goddess. She is FABULOUS!”

“The main reason I want to be a part of Dalton State’s theatre program is the people. I have been in high school musicals and community plays, and the people I meet through theatre are the ones I want to surround myself with. Plus, we have a lot of fun! I don’t know what I would do if I just went home and studied after class.”

“I have always had a love for the arts, and in high school I played in the band, so I came from a musical background. The main reason I am involved is because of my friends encouraging me. We also have a fantastic director, Dr. Kim Correll, who inspired me to be in my first play and pushed me to be the actor I never realized I could be. I also write plays for Dr. Correll for her children's theatre class that performs at area elementary schools.”

“When I was in high school, I was involved in theatre all four years. So when I got to Dalton State, I knew I wanted to continue - even take all the theatre classes. I wanted to do it all! Theatre has always been something I’ve loved, and I’m happy to be able to continue that while in college!”

Dalton State College presents “Little Shop of Horrors” Nov. 20-24 at 7:30 nightly in the Goodroe Auditorium on campus. Tickets are $7.
